What is an Earth Oven?

An Earth Oven / Clay Tandoor / Cooking pit  is most ancient and one of the simplest cooking structures. At the most basic, earth oven traps heat and bake, smoke, or steam that allow to cook food quickly yet completely. Earth ovens have been used in many places and cultures in the past, it remains as a common tool for cooking large quantities of food where no equipment is available.


What is this workshop?

Why spend lots of money on expensive fancy branded ovens when you can cook up in an Earth oven which is efficient and eco-friendly at the same time. To explore and implement the nation’s love for outdoor cooking I want to launch a workshop where people can cook bread/naan/pizza in a traditional way and could have the perfect gathering outdoors. This workshop will teach you to build an earth oven /  clay tandoor in your backyard / any outdoor space of your choice. This oven is ideal to bake bread/naan, cook tandoori’s, pizzas and even soups outdoors. It can be built easily just with some clay, sand and bricks, it could perhaps serve as a heater during summer evenings. It is an economical way of cooking, yet it is playful and helps build strong community engagement.


Who is this workshop for?

You! Yes, you heard it right. A lot of us love to spend time outdoors and have a gathering (like a picnic),eat good food and relax with friends/family on a weekend so, a way to spend time outdoors could be cooking. Since food being the main element that brings people together, building an Earth oven / Clay Tandoor would surely enlighten the vibe.


How is this Workshop delivered?
This workshop is delivered online as a do it yourself manual with a series of hand drawings and imagery that helps you to understand the details of building it. At the end of this workshop you will be able to build an earth oven yourself in 10 steps from scratch.
