Cellule Kitchen

Aysha Farhana

This project was done for the Southwark Day Center for Asylum Seekers (SDCAS) organization. The project was located at St. Mary’s Church in Newington.

The project overview was to develop a portable kitchen for the asylum seekers. Asylum seekers are often devoid of the normalcy of domestic activities and shared experiences, such as access to basic kitchen, cooking time. In order to engender a sense of neutralization in the process of belonging, in a new place, it was required to design an open kitchen, a space for sharing, collaboration and interaction. The open kitchen will act as a social space for multicultural people in transit.
